The Flag Folding Ceremony is an important part of any fire service
funeral. Not only does it serve to honour the memory of the fallen comrade,
but also to honour the flag of the country in which he/she served.
For
members of the Canadian Fire Service who perish in the line of duty,
or as a result of job-related
illness, the Canadian Flag is folded into
a tricorn, a three sided (tri-cornered) bundle for presentation to the
grieving family. Completed in a series of 11 separate folds, each side
of the completed tricorn is said to represent one of the three aspects
of the “Father,” “Son", and the “Holy Ghost.”
