Strathcona County Emergency Services is an integrated service that is proud to provide complete fire suppression, rescue and emergency medical services to the residents of Strathcona County. On January 12, 1993, the department was contacted by the family of Mrs. Murial Meyer, a former patient that had been transported to the hospital on multiple occasions prior to passing away from her illness. During those transports, the family was touched by the treatment and respect provided to them by the department members who had cared for Mrs. Meyer. As a sign of their gratitude and appreciation for that treatment, the family wanted to make a donation towards the Honour Guard. Their one request was that if the Guard was going to purchase any lasting single object with the donation, that object be inscribed to indicate the memory of Murial Meyer.

The donation received from the Meyer family was used to purchase an acoustic Ceremonial Bell for the Guard to use when honouring their fallen comrades with the sounding of the Last Alarm. On the base of the bell is an attached brass plaque that reads: “In Memory of Murial Meyer.”
